Micro-wind turbines for cities

Be done When discussing renewable energy, the focus is often on large projects. In truth, the answer may be platforms developed for a local application.

When renewable energy is discussed, most people picture large structures. With the sun, it is a valley full of solar panels glittering in the sun. With wind power, most think of large turbines gracefully turning into the wind as they sit in valleys or up on hills. As more and more money put into renewable energyResearch, the research results are producing an entirely new range of devices.

With wind power is one of the questions to find optimal places for placing turbines. Monetary terms, this can be problematic. The best wind sites are often located in Smack Dab in the middle of developed areas. Even for areas that are available, the costs of installing lines for the resulting energy can be obscene. Given this Catch-22 situation, many have started outside the box on wind powerPlatforms.

Oregon State University and AeroVironment, Inc. have a unique solution for the wind power problem can occur. The idea is to abandon the wind farm idea completely. Instead, they are the applications that can be used on a per structure basis. In this case the solution is micro wind turbines.

Micro wind turbines are essentially wind turbines on a scale from a few feet in height instead of thirty or forty feet. The idea is to place the plants on the roofsof buildings to capture the wind that often rages over the edge of roofs. The systems are modular, meaning they can ever be added to the roof as needed basis. This is done by a rail system similar to the light in a home as a base for the turbines. Depending on the demand of the building, one, ten or 100 turbines can be installed.

It is true that a number of small wind turbines look a little strange, at the average office building. On industrialBuildings and warehouses, but the structures would make little or no difference to the look. Heck, they would probably be an improvement. And above all, the turbines would represent energy independence for many of the companies which the building. Unlike solar, the turbines would power both during the day and night to produce, meaning power could be stored in batteries or the utility grid at night to high energy use periods during the day covered.

Micro wind turbines may orare not part of the solution of energy issues before us. It is clear, however, talented people are beginning to focus on the issue and come with innovative solutions.
